On 20th May 1965, a sleeper express from Glasgow Central to Kensington Olympia was partially derailed here, caused by a broken rail by water troughs NE of Hest Bank station. Eleven people suffered minor injuries but there were no fatalities. See LinkExternal link for the report on the incident.

The view here is from the footbridge, taken a few days after the event, showing two of the sleeper cars on the embankment.
