Castle Carr Upper Lodge
Castle Carr Upper Lodge
Progress, as far as the general public are concerned, along Castle Carr Road comes to an abrupt halt under the archway of the Lodge Buildings - a mock medieval monstrosity repeated deeper in the valley of Luddenden Dean.
To reinforce the privacy notice, a large individual carved out of the local gritstone was leaning on the barrier pleading for confrontation.
The alternative is to gain the open access moorland to the east, cross over Height Edge and Too To Hill to reach the ruin of Fulshaw. The terrain is difficult, boggy and unpleasant until the woods above Upper Dean Head Reservoir are reached.
