Channel Tunnel works begin. The first step is greatly to enlarge the land area by driving steel sheets into the sea bed to make a coffer dam. Subsequently filled with concrete. Then the enclosed area pumped out and filled with sand. Next: TR2939 : Shakespeare Cliff during Channel Tunnel works (2).
