Ferring Rife Outfall
Ferring Rife Outfall
Rife is a local Sussex word for small river particualrly found on the coastal plain between Worthing and Chichester. These watercourses are little bigger than streams but flow into the sea though Ferring Rife has done so through an outfall or conduit pipe since the 19th century as it was never strong enough to force its way through the banks of shingle and thus liable to flood farmland to the north of the beach. Beyond the shingle is the popular Bluebird Cafe.
