SK1466 : The Village Cross, Moneyash

taken 7 years ago, near to Monyash, Derbyshire, England

The Village Cross, Moneyash
The Village Cross, Moneyash
The Plaque reads:-

This Village Cross dates from circa 1340 when the village was granted a charter to hold a weekly market on a Tuesday and a three day fair to celebrate the festival of Holy Trinity. It is likely the cross itself was made out of wood and mounted on top of the stone shaft. The circular holes in the base are where the lead miners tested their drills after sharpening at the smithy
