This pipe is being laid as part of the Birmingham Resilience Project, this pipeline will provide an alternative supply of water for the city of Birmingham to that from Elan Valley. This new pipeline will run from the River Severn near Stourport-on-Severn to Frankley Reservoir. This alternative supply will enable engineers to drain the aqueduct from Elan Valley for maintenance work, the aqueduct is more than 100 years old.
