TR2436 : Siren

taken 10 months ago, near to Folkestone, Kent, Great Britain

Created by Marc Schmitz and Dolgor Ser-Od for the Folkestone Triennial 2017 arts festival.
"The artists were intrigued by the acoustic mirrors at nearby Denge (Dungeness). Although a little like a sea shell or animal horn, Siren is intended to look as if it has landed from space, and to evoke an unfamiliar, mythic or alien technology. The sculpture amplifies distant sound, but adds the possibility of speaking back by becoming a megaphone. It gathers the noise of the waves and activity from Folkestone Harbour, and is a reminder that a fog horn sounded until recently from the lighthouse."
