SX4563 : Bere Ferrers Signalbox

The original spelling (Beer Ferris)SX4563 : Wrongly named can still be seen on the sign on the old signal box, which in 2006 was converted into a small railway museum. The signal box, while an LSWR original, is quite new to the site having been erected in 1989/90 – it was formerly at Pinhoe railway station on the outskirts of Exeter. See Link for more details.
Bere Ferrers station on the Tamar Valley Line is situated near the village of Bere Ferrers. The station is on the former Southern main line between Exeter and Plymouth via Okehampton. It is currently operated by Great Western Railway (GWR). The station opened in 1890.
Bere Ferrers, sometimes called Beerferris, is a village on the Bere peninsula in West Devon. It is located to the north of Plymouth, on the west bank of the River Tavy. It has a railway station on the Tamar Valley Line. The village has a church, village hall and pub.
Signalboxes are used in Britain to control the safe movement of trains across the railway network. Most are located either just outside stations or at junctions.
