Bowder Stone, Borrowdale
Bowder Stone, Borrowdale
There is discussion whether this large stone balanced on one edge is a glacial erratic or the result of a rockfall. There is apparently evidence to support the latter. It has been a tourist attraction since 1798. The young man by the foot of the stairs was occasionally demonstrating bouldering by climbing from his crash mat under the overhang to appear by the top of the stairs. I missed this treat as I was stood on top when he suddenly appeared and shot back down the stairs.
