NX9618 : Decrepit wooden capstan, West Pier

taken 17 years ago, near to Whitehaven, Cumbria, England

Decrepit wooden capstan, West Pier.
Decrepit wooden capstan, West Pier.
A reminder of the former days of sail, this fine piece seems to be hanging on valiantly fighting its inevitable decay. The capstan form is echoed in the bronze sculpture on the Sugar Tongue, not far away.
