Grace Darling was a Standard Victorian Heroine when I was at school in the 1960s although I didn't really have a clue where her heroic rescue actually took place. The recumbent effigy of Grace Darling (1844 by Raymond Smith) was formerly in the churchyard (a replica now takes its place).
