TQ1247 : Wotton church from the north-west

taken 8 months ago, near to Wotton, Surrey, Great Britain

Wotton church from the north-west
The tower is reckoned to be early Norman, built of Bargate stone quarried locally from the Greensand beds. What is noticeable in good light is that - even after many centuries of weathering - the masonry still has a greenish tinge.

The stone on the mound in the foreground is arranged lengthwise, in the manner of the wooden grave-boards still found in some Surrey churchyards.
