Newtown Bypass - Dolfor bridges
Newtown Bypass - Dolfor bridges
The Newtown bypass currently under construction involves some unusually heavy civil engineering works. Examination of the map shows that just south of the town centre there are two country lanes running roughly parallel to each other. However, the contours show that the higher lane is approximately 25-30 metres above the lower one; the new road, running at only a slight skew angle, will pass beneath the upper lane and then over the lower one (and a small stream) on a substantial 3-span bridge.
This photo is taken from the upper lane and shows four structures under construction. The nearest and furthest will form the abutments which will launch the new road across the lower lane and stream. The two central structures are the supporting piers which will carry the bridge itself.
