SJ0478 : St Mary's Well

In the grounds of Bodrhyddan Hall is a 17th century octagonal stone superstructure with arched entrance, cherub keystone, cupola with pelican and a rectangular bath to the north with stone balustrade, corner balustrade and fielded panels. Link
The building carries an inscription 'INIGO JONES 1612', however it does not appear to be depicted on an estate map of 1730, whilst present in 1756. The well itself is obviously ancient and is reputed to have been a site of pagan worship. It is presently labelled as a "Wishing Well" and all monies thrown in are donated to St Kentigern Hospice Link
in St Asaph.The hall is the home of Lord Langford and his family who also own Rhuddlan Castle. It is Grade I listed Link
The 8 acres of gardens are a mix of formal beds near the house (including a parterre designed by architect William Nesfield during his Victorian remodelling of the house) and more informal grounds further out which include an ancient holy well and a working farm.
The hall and grounds are usually open to the public on two days per week. At other times it opens for private parties and corporate events and it can be used as a wedding venue.
