SK3451 : Ambergate former West Junction viaduct

taken 6 years ago, near to Ambergate, Derbyshire, England

Ambergate former West Junction viaduct
Ambergate former West Junction viaduct
The viaduct is as wide as it is because it used to carry the double-track main line to Manchester and a chord connecting it to the line to Sheffield. These met at Ambergate West Junction, also on the viaduct. Nowadays, the chord is gone and the remaining line, truncated at Matlock, is single-track.
