Three Butt Lane bridge
Three Butt Lane bridge
The bridge carries a road over a former railway line, now part of the Sustrans cycle/walking route.
Liverpool Extension Line (NCN62)

Opened in 1879/80 by the Cheshire Lines Committee, this important freight artery ran from Hunts Cross on the Liverpool to Manchester line northwards to Aintree, where it met lines from various directions. Although principally a freight line, there was some local passenger traffic and it also served as a useful route for charter trains to Aintree race course.

The line closed in 1975, and since the 1980s it has formed part of Sustrans' National Cycle Network route 62 (Fleetwood to Selby).
