Old sledgates for Caudale Quarry
Old sledgates for Caudale Quarry
The low afternoon light accentuates the deeply worn grooves leading to/from Caudale Quarry higher up the ridge. Mick Garrat gives a good explanation here NY4011 : Sunken Tracks up Caudale Moor. The more rounded shadows coming straight down the fellside are almost certainly natural. Given their position on a ridge behind which once sat a small corrie glacier, I suspect they might be melt water channels cut into glacial deposits.
