Castle Campbell, Dollar
Castle Campbell is one of the five historic sites on the Clackmannanshire Tower Trail, but is the only one which requires any effort to reach.
Originally called Castle Gloom (Gloom Hill is nearby), Castle Campbell is situated at the head of Dollar Glen overlooking the confluence of the Bums of Sorrow and Care. The castle dates from the 15th to the 17th century and was the lowland seat of the earls and dukes of Argyll. The castle was abandoned in the early 18th century. It is now a Historic Scotland property.
