Swavesey busway stop
Swavesey busway stop
This shows the Cambridge platform (left) and the St Ives platform (right). The Busway comprises two separate guided sections. The longer of the two runs over parts of the former Cambridge - St Ives railway from the edge of St Ives to two points in the north of Cambridge; and the shorter from a point in the south of Cambridge to Trumpington, partly over a section of the former Cambridge - Oxford railway. The Busway opened in 2011 in an atmosphere of public scepticism not least because it was over-budget, completed later than planned and still the subject of litigation. Despite this poor start, the Busway has fared better than expected.
