The house is owned by the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Preservation Society, and provides self-catering accommodation for volunteers.
The inscription 'STABLE DRAPER' is picked out in gold above the door - presumably this was the draper's shop belonging to Mr George Stable, as listed in an 1861 commercial directory LinkExternal link .
