The Arun rises 120 metres above sea level at its source in St Leonard's Forest near Horsham. It then runs 25 miles before reaching the sea at Littlehampton.
It's the second fastest flowing river in England with a 'flashy' nature responsive to heavy rainfall.
The river is tidal as far inland as Pallingham Quay, 18.25 miles upstream from Littlehampton.

Ford is a village in West Sussex. It is centred 2 miles south by south-west of Arundel.
The village includes HM Prison Ford, otherwise known as Ford Open Prison centred on the site of two former government installations, the RAF Ford Battle of Britain airfield and the Royal Naval Air Station HMS Peregrine.
Ford station is on the West Coastway Line which has the listed building and pub next to it on semi-rural Arundel Road. Some larger units of Rudford Industrial estate are in the south of the village. The Village also has an old church, the Church of St Andrew by the Ford.

The West Coastway Line runs along the south coast of West Sussex and Hampshire, between Brighton and Southampton. At the eastern end, the East Coastway Line continues the route from Southampton to Ashford International, via Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings and Ore.
The line was built in several stages between 1840 and 1889.
