Mudflats up river from Mersea Stone
Mudflats up river from Mersea Stone
Towards the left at the water's edge is a black feature that is charted as a wreck. It is not recognizably that of a vessel, more a structure. There is a 1970s photograph on the Mersea Museum website taken from a similar direction that shows the wreck of the 'Lowlands' with very close by a substantial lattice pylon navigation beacon. Now there is no sign of the wreck (it is believed to be now buried in the growing mud bank) but what is seen is recognizably the lower part of the pylon.
