Lightwaves 2017 - Blackpool Tableaux at MediaCityUK
For the 2017 Lightwaves festival, Quays Culture showcased a curated collection of tableaux from the Blackpool Illuminations as they had done in 2016. This year’s tableaux included Star Trek and children’s TV favourites Sooty Sweep and Soo, located next to the tram stop and a fantastical pirate scene located at the Dock 9 waterfront. Each of the works reflect different themes of the MediaCityUK landscape. Star Trek looks towards futuristic and digital technology, Sooty and his pals recognise the new broadcasting industry which has developed here that includes children’s television.

Quays Culture - Lightwaves
Lightwaves claims to be the UK’s largest free outdoor digital art light show. The annual festival, hosted by Quays Culture, showcases an eclectic programme of digital light art, taking over public spaces in Salford Quays and MediaCityUK each December. Each year, Lightwaves features new and exclusively commissioned digital art displays alongside tableaux borrowed from the Blackpool Illuminations.
