taken 8 years ago, near to Mottram in Longdendale, Tameside, England

Dame Elizabeth Booth's gift to the poor
This bread rack in Mottram Church bears the inscription:

THE GIFT OF
DAME ELIZABETH BOOTH
TO THE POORE OF THIS PA
RISH FOR EVER ANNO:
1619

My understanding is that the shelves were used for bread which was then distributed to the poor.
Mottram Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels

A church has existed on War Hill since at least 1225 but the present Grade II* listed church LinkExternal link was built in the 15th century. It had major restoration carried out in 1855. The tower is 20m high and houses a peel of 8 bells. It is the parish church of Mottram-in-Longdendale and a landmark for several miles around.
