Waulsortian Mud Mound - High Tor
Waulsortian Mud Mound - High Tor
This is one of (if not the best) Waulsortian mud mound in the UK. This mound is a lens shaped mictric massive limestone belonging to the Eyam Limestone Formation. Unlike reefs of today which are constructed by reef builders (corals etc) these mounds were created by algal communities. This is partly due to mass extinctions in the Devonian.
