SP8113 : Lion, Aylesbury Market Square

taken 10 months ago, near to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Great Britain

Lion, Aylesbury Market Square
Lion, Aylesbury Market Square
One of two cast-iron lions, different, the other one seems to be asleep (SP8113 : Forty winks), but you never can tell with lions. Grade II listed, from the foundry of Antoine Durenne, Paris. They appear to be copies of a pair of lions sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1792 for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St Peter's in Rome.
