The steam yacht Gondola was originally launched in 1859. Following a long period of service until 1936, she was retired and converted into a houseboat in 1946, but was badly damaged in a storm in 1963/64. Rebuilt in the late 1970s, she re-entered service in 1980 and today carries about 40,000 passengers a year.
