SY Gondola, Coniston Water
A twin-tailed serpent adorns the prow of the steam yacht Gondola. Originally launched in 1859, following a long period of service until 1936, she was retired and converted into a houseboat in 1946. She was badly damaged in a storm in 1963/64. Rebuilt in the late 1970s, she re-entered service in 1980 and today carries about 40,000 passengers a year.
