These two Archimedes screws are presumably used to lift waste water siphoned under the railway and road bridges across the River Leam LinkExternal link into storage tanks, from where it can be delivered by to the treatment plant by gravity. When the capacity of the system is exhausted, pre-treated excess water can be discharged into the Leam below the weir. Leamington has recently developed a new sewage system which is designed to minimise such discharges and flooding of low-lying properties by the river.
