Sutton memorial to tragedy - Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands
This memorial plaque at Sutton Coldfield Station, unveiled on the 23rd January 2016 by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Ray Hassall, marks the railway accident which occurred here on the 23rd January 1955. At 4.13pm an express train from York to Bristol, locomotive no. 45274, derailed on a curve as it approached the station. Excess speed may have been the cause but this has never been confirmed.
