Old tramway, Ailsa Craig
This is part of the tramway or railway line built by the Northern Lighthouse Board in 1886, to transport coal, oil and provisions from the North Port pier to the lighthouse and gas works (over the wall on the left). It is 3 foot gauge and still in good condition. It was operated using a powered cable, which hauled wagons up the slope from the port. The white-painted building seen in the centre is the winding house.
