Geograph - photograph every grid square

This fencing is alongside the old track bed of the Maiden Newton to bridport Branch line at Wytherston Wood. This is one of the gate posts in the fencing for a pedestrian gateway. The gate post consists of a substantial cast post surmounted by a cast finial. Each fence wire ran round a spool located within the post and each wire was kept under tension by a ratchet and pawl (hidden on opposite side of post) A metal bracing arm going into the ground at 45 degrees (hidden) was used to increase stability. This post still has the finial. One segment of the gate post has a flat metal plate with a slot carrying the words BOLT PLATE.
