Long Horse Bridge
Long Horse Bridge
The bridge was built in 2011 as a replacement for the old towpath bridge spanning the River Trent and giving access to the Trent and Mersey Canal. This was demolished because of deteriorating condition. The new bridge is sited some 140 metres upstream and cannot sensibly be used for towing non-powered craft using the traditional canal and river navigation. The paintwork is already showing signs of deterioration.
River Trent
The River Trent is the third longest river in England (185 miles). It rises on Biddolph Moor, Staffordshire, then follows a generally north east to northerly path to join the River Ouse at Trent Falls. The Ouse & Trent combined form the Humber Estuary.
It is a very important river, economically having a number of Power Stations and industrial sites along its banks. It is navigable as far as Burton-On-Trent.
