SK4962 : Tunnel under the Skegby Trail

taken 7 years ago, near to Skegby, Nottinghamshire, England

Tunnel under the Skegby Trail
Tunnel under the Skegby Trail
This brick-lined tunnel runs under the Skegby Trail (One of the Phoenix Greenways Trails) and forms part of a public footpath running between Dawgates Farm and Teversal.

The Skegby Trail occupies part of the Leen Valley Extensions of the Great Northern Railway (Later the London and North-Eastern Railway) that ran from Kirkby South to Langwith. The line was built to provide the N.E.R., access to the local coal mining area, which until at that time, was solely serviced by the Midland Railway (Later the London, Midland and Scottish Railway).
