The first (red) footbridge dates from 1869 and until 1911 carried a rail track as well across from the main station; covered over it was the main way into the East (Eastern 1935-77) Station, until the upper level footbridge was built in recent years [?]. The bridge carrying the four-track main line from Charing Cross is beyond that.
