Big Ben and Westminster Pier
Big Ben and Westminster Pier
Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower. The tower is officially Elizabeth Tower, renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2012.
The tower is undergoing extensive repair and is covered in scaffolding. The bells, which fell silent in August, will only chime at New Year and Remembrance Day for the next four years.
