Heron Mill - machinery
Heron Mill - machinery
The mill dates from 1740 and some of the machinery is claimed to be of that vintage. This large wooden frame carrying the stones is a Lowder frame. This carries four sets of stones used in the production of oatmeal. Two stones are used for shelling to remove the hulls from the groats and two are used for milling the groats for oatmeal or corn for flour. On the left is an oscillating sieve or jogscry for sieving the oatmeal.
