The riverbed upstream of the waterfall can be seen on the right. At the centre is a long trench LinkExternal link which the river has carved out along a geological fault when in spate. At low water levels, such as seen here, this trench is almost dry and most of the river water follows the upper level riverbed to the large cascade LinkExternal link visible in the middle distance. The river then continues in broadly the same direction in the riverbed on the lower level, in the background of the photo.
