Eastern edge of the Fairy Knowe
The Knowe itself has long since been quarried away, but its edge can still be discerned: in the present picture, a ribbon of higher ground enters at the left-hand half of the bottom edge of the picture, and recedes from view, curving to the left as it goes; that is the eastern edge of the Fairy Knowe. The disused quarry, occupying what was the interior of the Knowe, is to its left. See NS3779 : Eastern edge of the Fairy Knowe for a view in the opposite direction.

The former Fairy Knowe Quarry
Red sandstone was quarried here. The site was formerly a small hill called Fairy Knowe, but it became a quarry at the end of the nineteenth century; later maps call it Carman Quarry. It has long been disused. See Link
