In the Middle Ages Pudsey was made up of a number of small scattered settlements. One of those settlements was Alcoats or OwlCotes as we know it today. Owlcotes was occupied from at least the 12th century and in the mid 19th century Reverend Francis Maude owned Owlcotes. The rents were payable to the Vicar of Calverley. Sometime in the 1930’s the settlement of Owlcotes was abandoned, all that remains now is some barely visible foundations along with some larger stones that are now part of a wall that may have been from buildings of the settlement. In 1987 Owlcotes was registered as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
I did enjoy being a cardholder at Tradex for a decade or two. This place had some great bargains, sometimes I don't think they realised just what they were selling/giving away. My card was that old my membership number only had four digits. It came as a complete surprise when they closed down. I found out the hard way when I drove there one day. Does the Tradex in Harehills still operate?
