SK4761 : The Link Trail

The Link Trail
When this trail was originally created it was called the 'Link Track' rather than the 'Link Trail'
which, presumably, was a reference to these routes originally being railway tracks.
Similar signage can be seen in this photograph at SK4961 : The Link Trail and in this photograph by Alan Murray-Rust of the SK4963 : Skegby Track. The change from 'track' to 'trail' appears to have been made before SK4761 : The eastern end of the Silverhill Trail was constructed.
The Link Trail, as its name suggests, provides a link between two trails, namely the Silverhill and the Skegby Trails. This was once the Great Northern Railway's Teversal branch line giving the company access to the collieries at Silverhill and Teversal.
Collectively the trails have been given various names, for example the Pleasley Trails and the Teversal Trails. However once the Silverhill Trail was completed linking these trails with the Five Pits Trail they were all grouped (possibly as of 2011) under the banner of the Phoenix Greenways. An information board at the Teversal Visitor Centre (some 130m behind the viewpoint) displays route maps under this heading.

Behind the viewpoint the exit from the SK4761 : Teversal Coal Garden and visitor car park divides in two. Both paths provide access to the same SK4761 : Three Routes, however the path from where this photograph was taken is cycle and wheelchair friendly.
