Signal box, Didcot Railway Centre
This is a preserved railway site with much interesting equipment including a variety of early signalling equipment. According to John Webb - the two posts by the box are a means of lifting signal wires when it was not possible to run them more usually alongside the track side at ground level. The short post on the right is a catcher for the single-line token carrier - the similar short post on the left of it carries a lamp to illuminate the catcher at night. The small black corrugated iron shed is a 'Lamp hut' where signal lamps were maintained and the fuel for them stored.
