NY8783 : Old railway hut
taken 18 years ago, near to Redesmouth, Northumberland, England

Old railway hut
Situated on the former "Wannie" (Wansbeck Railway) line from Morpeth close to the junction of the former Broomhope Valley mineral line, this old railway hut may have housed the point levers for the nearby exchange sidings; or it may well have been a bothy constructed from old sleepers for use by the permanent way gang. Old maps show both a bothy and a signal box at this location. The mineral line closed after 1879 when cheap imports made the iron mines uneconomic, and the passenger line became part of the North British Railway, finally closing in 1966.
