TQ7178 : Grazing marshes and fleet, south of Lower Hope Point

taken 8 years ago, 3 km from Cliffe, Medway, Great Britain

Grazing marshes and fleet, south of Lower Hope Point
Grazing marshes and fleet, south of Lower Hope Point
A view - at about 8pm in late July - from the track which runs below the seawall.

The drainage channel to the left is almost certainly a fleet - marking the course of a tidal creek that existed before the building of the seawall. The right-hand 'fork' is the seawall delph or borrow-dyke, running close to the seawall and parallel to it.

The grazing marshes here are some of the roughest - least 'improved' - in the Grain (Hoo) peninsula.

The view is a little to the east of south, with Cliffe cement works visible just left of centre, just below the skyline.
