Godrevy Island and its lighthouse
Godrevy Island and its lighthouse
Godrevy Island lies off the north Cornish coast at the northeastern end of St Ives Bay. The little island covers about 12 acres and is about 300 yds/m off Godrevy Point on the mainland.
The lighthouse is octagonal and stands 86' high, with its base at an elevation of about 50' making its light about 135' (c.40m) above sea level.
This lighthouse's main claim to fame however is that it is considered to be almost certainly the lighthouse of Virginia Woolf's 1927 novel "To The Lighthouse".
