taken 6 years ago, 4 km WNW of Tyn-y-Ffridd, Powys, Wales

Winding drum and brake mechanism
Winding drum and brake mechanism
The remains of a cable-operated brake machine for a slate mine incline; the mines and quarry workings lie on the hillside about 400m immediately west of here, and the incline SJ0732 : Forest firebreak led down eastwards to workshops and processing facilities in the area that's now just outside the forest boundary.
