Pitstone Mill, details of sails
Pitstone Mill, details of sails
The four common sails carried on two stocks passing through the cast iron canister (or poll end) on the end of the windshaft. The weatherboarded buck is seen beyond.

The mill is a post mill and is believed to date from at least 1627 - the earliest date carved in a timber in the beam. However dendrochronology shows some of the timbers were felled in around the winter of 1595/6 and the spring of 1597.
