Pitstone Mill - inside the round house
In the centre is the vertical main post that carries the weight of the buck (the body of the mill). This post is 17' long and 33" diameter at the base. It was cut from a single tree (this was probably felled in the spring of 1597). The main post is carried by 4 quarter bars that are the large diagonally inclined pieces of timber. The chain is for the sack hoist that would pull up the grain in sacks from the round house.
