Pitstone Mill - main post
Pitstone Mill - main post
This shows the huge vertical main post in the centre. At the top of the main post is a large horizontal timber called the crown tree. This transfers the whole weight of the buck to the main post and also acts as a bearing allowing the buck to rotate to face the wind. Also visible are the sack hoist chain, meal bins, great spur wheel and part of the governor drive mechanism.
