Trent and Mersey Canal north of Rugeley, Staffordshire
This is the Trent and Mersey Canal, looking south-east from beneath the arch of Bridge No 68.
It is an accommodation bridge which also allows a link between public footpaths both sides of the canal. Despite appearances on the ground now, it is a turnover bridge, designed so that a horse could change sides on the canal without being unhitched from the boat. In this image, the towpath does not continue on the right. Walkers need to know this. The footpath on the right leads directly to Springfields in Rugeley.
